Chocoholics can rest assured that researchers are working to ensure the continued production of their favourite food. A five-year research project at the University of Reading will investigate the pests and diseases responsible for the loss of one-third of the world's potential cocoa production, as well as the impact of climate change. Using state-of-the-art greenhouses that simulate different climate conditions in cocoa-growing regions, Reading researchers aim to help develop robust new varieties of the bean.
