University of Liverpool: Whirlybirds are go

An £8.8 million research project into helicopter rotor blade technology has been launched at the University of Liverpool. The three-year project, funded by the Technology Strategy Board, will involve collaboration with the universities of Bristol and Leicester. It will focus on "active surfaces" for rotor blades and active hydraulic systems in their controls, which continuously vary the aerodynamics to improve performance.
