The use of Scots words by newspapers north of the border has altered substantially since Scottish devolution 11 years ago. The Daily Record became "more Scottish" between 1995 and 2005, according to the work of Fiona Douglas, lecturer in English language at the University of Leeds. However, two other Scottish newspapers - The Herald and The Scotsman - excised many Scottish words during the same period.
