Union attacks job cuts

The lecturers' union at Cardiff University this week criticised plans to make 20 academics redundant in response to funding shortfalls in the university's Business School, education unit, School of Nursing and Midwifery Studies, and School of Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education.

Mark Aston, Cardiff's University and College Union president, said the staff should be redeployed. "The university should look to voluntary redundancies and reskilling instead of rushing into compulsory redundancies," he said.
