There is nothing wrong with being proud of your roots, but academics at Sheffield Hallam University may be surprised to learn that the university was "founded in 1843", according to the blurb in a recent job advert.
Indeed, one researcher at the university writes in to say they were amazed to discover Sheffield Hallam had such a "long-established pedigree" ranking alongside the grand civic universities of the Victorian era.
To avoid confusion, the university website explains that while the name Sheffield Hallam is 1992 vintage, its origins can be traced to the Sheffield School of Design in the mid-19th century, which merged with another college in the late 1960s to become the city polytechnic.
