Statues of Edmund Burke and Oliver Goldsmith

四月 7, 1995

(Photograph) - Face lift: the newly-cleaned and re-erected statues of Edmund Burke and Oliver Goldsmith have been unveiled by Irish Taoiseach John Bruton to mark the completion of the Pounds 700,000 first phase of the Pounds 4.2 million restoration of Trinity College Dublin. The copper statues, which stand at the college's front entrance, were restored by Rupert Harris, who prepared the conservation report for London's Albert Memorial. The Goldsmith figure needed repair after falling from its plinth following the 1994 St Patrick's Day celebrations. The restoration of the college's oldest buildings is part of a European Union-funded study of decay processes in historic buildings.
