Cardiff University student union has scored a showbiz coup by persuading pop diva Kylie Minogue to write a jingle for its helpline, writes Tony Tysome.
The Australian star has re-written the lyrics to her smash hit "Can't Get You out of My Head" to promote the union's Nightline service, a confidential helpline run by students for students.
The jingle will be played from this week on the university's Express Radio, broadcast via the internet around the campus and in Cardiff's students union building.
The pop icon, who has family living in Wales, agreed to record the jingle after she was contacted by Cardiff students following her performance at Cardiff's International Arena.
Student union communications officer Ellie King said: "We sent a mini-disc and information book about Nightline to Kylie's hotel when she was playing at the arena. We did not hear for months and then suddenly received a reply through the post with Kylie's jingle."
The lyrics to Kylie's jingle will not be revealed until it is broadcast for the first time on Thursday. "Everyone is waiting to tune in and find out what they are," Ms King said.
A spokesman for Kylie's label Parlophone said the star sometimes chose to support charities such as Nightline without announcing it publicly. "She just thought that this was a worthwhile cause," the spokesman said.
