Protesters lose appeal

Six students who interrupted a conference at Lancaster University in protest over "unethical" university business links have lost their appeal against an aggravated trespass conviction. The students, dubbed the "George Fox Six", were given an 18-month conditional discharge by a district judge at Preston Crown Court and ordered to pay £3,600.

In a joint statement the students, said: "This judgment runs counter to democracy by inhibiting protest and dissent."
