Brigid Heywood , currently professor of inorganic chemistry and pro vice-chancellor (research and enterprise) at Keele University, has been appointed pro vice-chancellor (research and staff) at the Open University.

Portsmouth University has appointed Sara Holmes as head of its School of Professionals Complementary to Dentistry.

Tim Holt , former business development manager, has been appointed chief executive of the Institute of Photonics at Strathclyde University.

The Institute of Education, University of London, has appointed Bryn Morris , former associate director at the Audit Commission, as director of administration.

Jan Druker , currently at the University of East London’s Business School, has been appointed assistant principal (knowledge transfer) at Canterbury Christ Church University College.

Elizabeth Williamson , former senior lecturer in pharmacognosy and phytotherapy at the University of London’s School of Pharmacy, has been appointed professor of pharmacy at Reading University.

Ngaire Woods , director of the global economic programme at University College, Oxford, has been awarded a Hood visiting fellowship at the University of Auckland, New Zealand.

The Arts and Humanities Research Council has announced the appointment of a director for its strategic programme, Landscape and Environment. Stephen Daniels , professor of cultural geography at Nottingham University, will take up the post from September 2005.
