  • Alan Colman has been appointed the new director of stem-cell research at King's College London. He will join the college's health schools in May. Dr Colman was part of the team which created Dolly the sheep, the world's first mammal cloned from an adult cell, at the Roslin Institute in Edinburgh. He is currently executive director of the Singapore Stem Cell Consortium.
  • Alf Baird , professor in Napier University's Transport Research Institute, has been appointed specialist adviser to the Tynwald (Isle of Man Parliament) select committee inquiry into the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company.
  • Josef Ackermann , chief executive officer of Deutsche Bank, has been appointed a visiting professor at the London School of Economics. Dr Ackermann, who will be based in LSE's department of finance, took up his appointment on November 1.
  • Leeds University has made a number of appointments: Ivan Robertson , emeritus professor at Manchester University's Business School and fellow of the British Psychological Society, joins as chair in organisational psychology; Ann Macintosh , formerly at Napier University, becomes chair in digital governance; Simon Ruijsenaars , formerly at Amsterdam's Centre for Mathematics and Computer Science, has been made a chair in mathematical physics.
  • John Sitzia has been appointed senior assistant director of the UK Cancer Research Network. He was formerly at Worthing and Southlands NHS Trust and Sussex NHS Research Consortium.
