Nottingham Trent University - A bear's necessities

A student has made a 29-year-old polar bear the subject of her dissertation project. Annie Burgin, a zoo biology student at Nottingham Trent University, is studying how Mercedes - the only polar bear in a UK zoo - has adapted to a move from her original home at Edinburgh Zoo to the Highlands Wildlife Park. Ms Burgin said the bear had enjoyed the recent snow: "It's great to see how well she's adjusted ... there's no sign of the pacing behaviour that we had previously seen, and she's more than happy to spend her time chasing birds and rabbits."
