Students and staff with electric cars will soon be plugging themselves in and charging up on campus. Newcastle University has joined the Plugged in Places project, which will introduce vehicle charging points into public spaces across the North East. The Office for Low Emission Vehicles, which is backing the scheme, plans to install 1,300 charging points in the region over the next three years. The first 620 of these, including a number on the Newcastle campus, are due to be installed by the end of this year.
