Newcastle University - A surprising lack

Almost half of UK women may be deficient in vitamin A due to a previously undiscovered genetic variation, a team of scientists at Newcastle University has found. The study, led by Georg Lietz, lecturer in the School of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development, found that 47 per cent of women had a reduced ability to produce sufficient amounts of the vitamin from beta-carotene, because of their genetic make-up.
