Guildhall Students oppose merger plans
Students at London Guildhall University are opposing its planned merger with the University of North London and are threatening occupations if they are not listened to. 88 per cent of students who voted in a poll were against the merger and 12 per cent abstained. None were in favour.

Black staff marginalised in further education
Black staff in further education colleges are under-represented, disempowered and marginalised while complaints of racial discrimination are often ignored, according to an interim study by the Commission on Black Staff in Further Education. It found only 5 per cent of colleges have a specific race equality policy while 84 per cent of institutions have no senior black staff.

Bombus hypnorum, a species of bumblebee new to the United Kingdom, has been discovered in the northern edge of the New Forest, University of Southampton biologists Dave Goulson and Ben Darvil said today.

Student sex survey votes out nerds
Number crunchers and computer nerds have been voted the least sexy students in a new survey - while more than half of second-year students quizzed at 15 universities said they had sex in their first week at the institution. The survey, conducted by drinks manufacturer Metz, also found that 96 per cent of students said they would not get sexually involved with a lecturer.
