'Ordinary' couple donate £130,000 microscope
A surprise £130,000 bequest by “an ordinary Dundee couple” has paid for a state-of-the-art laser microscope that will help cancer scientists at Dundee University to understand bowel cancer. The money was left to the medical charity Tenovus and cancer research by post office engineers Ann and Bert Duff.
Garden gives respite in livestock crisis
The University of Cambridge botanic garden has extended its free opening times to all day on Wednesdays for the duration of the foot-and-mouth crisis. Director John Parker said: “We felt that during a time when restrictions are imposed nationwide we could offer two miles of footpaths for the public to enjoy.”
