Graduate employment up
The proportion of graduates out of work six months after graduation is at its lowest for seven years. Some 68 per cent were employed within six months of completing a full-time course in 1999, according to the annual first destinations survey.
Only 5 per cent of graduates were jobless six months after graduation. Others are in further study or other activities.

King's gets £2m to shift books
King’s College London is receiving £2 million from a charitable trust to move its collection of rare books to a specially designed space in its new library.
The Foyle Foundation, established in the will of bookseller Christina Foyle, is donating the money.

Rat ruled out as rector
Baywatch star David Hasselhoff is among five student-nominated candidates for Dundee University rector. The others are Abd al-Fattah El-Awaisi, principal-elect of the Al Maktoom Institute of Arabic and Islamic studies; Conservative MSP Nick Johnston; comedian Fred McAulay; and Richard Whiteley, presenter of TV quiz Countdown . A nomination for Twinkle Rat was ruled invalid because the nominee had not signed the form.
