Just a third of employees perceive their work as meaningful and have opportunities to voice their views. And unsurprisingly, this category of workers is the most "engaged". A two-year study at Kingston University found that engaged employees performed better, were more innovative than others, saw their workload as more manageable and were more likely to stay with their employer. Public sector employees showed higher levels of "social and intellectual engagement" than those in the private sector, but they were also less emotionally, and less frequently, engaged.
