Manchester University's new leader, the straight-talking Alan Gilbert, is hard at work promoting his new-look university, travelling hither and yon to meet the great and the good. But perhaps his sights have been set too far afield. The people who work in his university are apparently feeling a trifle neglected. Many report that they have still not set eyes on their great leader, let alone met him in the flesh. Perhaps a little more palm-pressing at home might be in order.
