Imperial College London - Return of the Silurian blob

八月 12, 2010

An ancient creature of the deep has been revealed by scientists at Imperial College London. They have developed a 3D model of the only known fossilised specimen of a creature, called Drakozoon, which lived in the ocean 425 million years ago. Drakozoon was a cone-shaped, blob-like creature with a hood and probably had a leathery exterior skin. It seems to have survived by attaching itself to hard surfaces such as rock. Mark Sutton, senior lecturer at Imperial's department of earth science and engineering, said: "Our 3D model brings back to life a creature that until recently no one knew even existed."
