Imperial College London: Malaria parasites are persistent

Even mosquitoes with drastically reduced numbers of malaria parasites inside them are capable of infecting people, according to a new study. Researchers previously thought that reducing the number of parasites within mosquitoes would reduce transmission to humans, but research published in the journal PLoS Pathogens concludes that the parasites must be completely eliminated from each mosquito in order to fully prevent transmission to humans. The study was led by Bob Sinden of Imperial College London.
