EMPLOYEE participation in shaping work can boost a company's performance, according to a survey of European firms.

Peter Totterdill, who heads Nottingham Trent University's Centre for Work and Technology, helped survey 15 firms across Europe. Worker empowerment improves innovation and services, Professor Totterdill said. "Competitiveness requires not only production efficiency but an empowered and innovative workforce capable of delivering collective solutions to problems."
