Deadline: 14/02/2001

Grants are made for strategic and applied equine research projects which aim to improve the health and welfare of horses, particularly the Thoroughbred. Grants are awarded exclusively in Britain, normally to University Veterinary Schools, other University departments, research institutes and private veterinary practices. The Principal Investigator should normally be a salaried, scientific member of staff, whether or not a veterinary surgeon, or an individual holding an appointment for which the salary will be met by a source other than the institute or the Board for the duration of the project. Projects are usually funded for three years, but may be of lesser duration.

Grants may include funds for staff, overheads (maximum 40% of staff costs), consumables, travel expenses, livestock and equipment. Owing to limitations in the veterinary budget, material sums cannot usually be provided for equipment at present. Grants are annual, and, for projects of over one year’s duration, are renewed subject to progress in the study.
