Up to 40,000 adults could have a link with the proposed University of the Highlands and Islands each year, according to the Highland Council. But it warns that the project must reduce its dependence on government support in its report, Looking Ahead for the Highlands. It also warns that pressure on UHI Ltd to get university status must not drive its member colleges towards a more conventional curriculum and mission and away from innovative information technology facilities for the whole community.
