Higher education appointments

University of Hull
Steven Barwell , former fund-raiser for the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, has been appointed to the development and alumni relations office to develop the university's fund-raising activities.

University of Manchester
The university's council has made the following honorary appointments:

Visiting professor:
Paul Michell
, in the faculty of business as visiting professor of marketing for 3 years from November 2000.

Honorary visiting professors:
M.E. Boulton
, cell and molecular biology/optometry and vision sciences, for 3 years from March 2001; N.E. Chayen , protein crytallisation in the faculty of science and engineering.

Honorary professors:
R.C. Baldwin
(in lieu of honorary clinical senior lecturer) in psychiatry.
D.G.R. Evans (in lieu of honorary clinical senior lecturer) in medical genetics
P.C. Williams
(in lieu of honorary lecturer) in radiological physics
J.A. Radford
(in lieu of honorary clinical senior lecturer) in medical oncology
J.A. Liu Yin (in lieu of honorary lecturer) in haematology

Honorary reader:
P.A. Dyer (in lieu of honorary lecturer) in transplantation immunology and immunogenetics.

Honorary senior lecturer:
P.N. Bishop (in lieu of honorary lecturer) in biochemistry and ophthalmology.

City University
Peter Leggatt will lead the new computing services part of the information services group as director.

The new director of internal audit, Denis Day , joins the university from Securicor Distribution.

Gregory Wray , formerly at the University of East London, joined the finance department on May 9.   

University of Southampton
Stephen Waring, former director of corporate affairs at Salisbury College, has been appointed assistant director with special responsibility for marketing and recruitment.
