Higher education appointments

Nottingham Trent University

The following have been appointed to the university's board of governors:
Richard Bullock , deputy senior partner at Freeth Cartwright solicitors, deputy lieutenant for Nottinghamshire and an under sheriff for Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, he has also served as a member of the university's Employment Policy Committee;
Marie-Louise Clayton , strategic development director for Alstom Power Gas Turbines and a fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants, will serve on the university's Finance Strategy Panel;
Wendy Gordon , a founding partner of The Fourth Room and has served as a committee member for the Market Research Society, the Association of Qualitative Research and the Account Planning Group.

Two appointments have also been made to panels supporting the board's work:
Simon Stevenson , director of investment brokerage services for Hodgson Elkington Chartered Surveyors, has been co-opted to membership of the Estates Advisory Panel;
Michael Freyd
, former director of Prolific Objective Asset Management and deputy managing director of the equity division of the Union Bank of Switzerland, will serve on the Financial Strategy Panel.

Institute of Education

The title of professor has been conferred upon:
Barbara MacGilchrist , dean of initial teacher education;
Sally Power , assistant dean of research.

John Rashbash has been named reader of statistical computing; Peter Earley, reader of education management .

Ashley Kent
, head of geography and the Education, Environment and Economy Group, has been elected chair of the Council of British Geography (COBRIG), the umbrella organisation for the UK's geography associations and societies.
