Jagdish Gundara of London University's Institute of Education, has been elected president of the International Association of Intercultural Education, which is based in Sweden and publishes the European Journal for Intercultural Studies.
Sheilagh Ogilvie, professor of economic history at the University of Cambridge, received this year's Gyorgy Ranki Prize for the best book on European economic history published in 1997 or 1998. The other winners were Jan de Vries and Ad M Van der Woude, who wrote a book on Dutch economic development.
