Gates gives UK schools $40m for malaria fight

Liverpool's School of Tropical Medicine is to work with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine on a $40 million anti-malaria programme funded entirely by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The foundation made its surprise donation after receiving a routine fundraising letter from the London school. Mr Gates set up the fund last year with the intention of finding cures for Aids, tuberculosis and malaria.
