Fit to print

French lithography will be the subject of the first exhibition at a new art gallery at the University of Kent. The Art of Lithography exhibition is being held at the Studio 3 gallery in the School of Arts on the university's Canterbury campus until 7 May. In bringing together rare prints by 19th-century French artists, it aims to re-examine the way lithography became a significant part of visual culture and artistic production in France. Beginning with the late-Bourbon era, the exhibition will explore how lithography took on special importance for artists associated with Romanticism in the first half of the century, and will go on to examine the revival of the craft in the latter half of the 1800s.
