‘Next Generation Manufacturing’ provides the opportunity to enable more radical and adventurous research in manufacturing to be supported. The initiative aims to take a holistic view of the manufacturing enterprise and look at future issues and challenges that must be addressed by the manufacturing enterprise. Call themes include: global markets and competition; valuing intangible assets; global services and products; mass customisation; agility and responsiveness of organisations; partnerships and relationships within a more dynamic value chain; local delivery: logistics, supply and demand; adaptability to rapid changes in technology; new technology into manufacturing production and processes; assessing and managing knowledge.
