Dispute dispatches

四月 7, 2006

  • Liverpool John Moores University: three union members are refusing to work on a whole-institution Quality Assurance Agency audit. In the engineering department, no exam scripts are being handed in. Assignments are not being marked.
  • Glamorgan University: congestion will build up next term - the institution has a linear programme. A QAA audit for a law course was recently postponed.
  • Durham University: union membership is about 50 per cent of relevant staff and half are said to be working normally. Most exam papers were set last term, so exams are likely to go ahead as normal. Retired staff and research students drafted in to invigilate exams.
  • Teesside University: local Association of University Teachers members reported to be setting exams against union advice. Both AUT and Natfhe members will boycott the marking process.
  • Leicester University: heads of department are being pressed by the student union to make alternative assessment plans to help students already hit by the boycott. Simon Green, vice-president education, has pledged to do what he can to help departments find alternative ways to set exams and mark students' work.
  • Staffordshire University: Natfhe reports a 10 per cent rise in membership since action began. Staff not marking but offering informal feedback. Students said to be supportive.
  • Dundee University: union reports action in all faculties, with masters students unable to graduate, oral exams not being marked, essays and other coursework building up and a number of departments refusing to forward exam papers to the registry.
