Canterbury Christ Church University - Elderly need song in their Herts

五月 8, 2008

Health experts are set to demonstrate the quality-of-life benefits of "silver singing" - singing clubs for older people. Hilary Bungay and Ann Skingley of the Sidney De Haan Research Centre for Arts and Health at Canterbury Christ Church University will next week present their findings on the "Silver Song Clubs Project". The scheme is run in 30 community venues in the South East of England for people who are socially isolated or suffering age-related health problems. Dr Bungay said: "Our findings suggest that, through the power of music, older people's quality of life can be improved dramatically. Participants told us that the clubs boosted their feelings of happiness; significantly improved their mental health and physical wellbeing, developed their memory, recall and cognition, and encouraged social interaction."
