The BBSRC announces a call for proposals under a new initiative in Plant and Microbial Metabolomics.
The further development and application of metabolomic technologies will be essential to the success of post-genomic research. In particular, studies of plants and microbes will be important in identifying molecular determinants of food quality, safety and nutrition, and opportunities for the exploitation of novel metabolic products. The initiative builds on previous initiatives funded by the Council, eg Investigating Gene Function, as well as schemes such as JREI, JIF and SRIF.
A key feature of delivery will be collaborations between biologists, chemists or other physical scientists, engineers and bioinformaticians. With funding of £1.5M available, the initiative will establish one or two centres of excellence offering complementary metabolomic technologies.
