University of Luton

Dai John, deputy vice-chancellor since 1989, will succeed Tony Wood as vice-chancellor in August, 1988. Andy Moore, former head of postgraduate programmes and associate dean of marketing has been appointed director of commercial affairs.

CAIPE

The UK Centre for the Advancement of Interprofessional Education has appointed Ian Cameron, provost and vice chancellor of the University of Wales College of Medicine, as its chair.

University of Brighton

David Anderson, former energy manager for Eastbourne hospitals, has been appointed energy manager in the university's estates department.

University College Chester

Timothy Wheeler, professor, acting director and chief executive at Southampton Institute, member of the Institute of Public Relations and the British Psychological Society, has been appointed principal.

Teachers' Benevolent Fund

Patrick Nash has been appointed chief executive of the fund. He is former director of the Tibet Relief Fund.

Institution of Mining and Metallurgy

Peter Dowd, professor and head of the school of process, environmental and materials engineering at the University of Leeds, has been elected president.

Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine

William Fulton, chairman of the Fulton Group, JP, has been appointed chairman.

Royal Commission

Stewart Sutherland, principal of the University of Edinburgh, has been appointed chairman of the Royal Commission on the funding of long-term care for the elderly.
