Accolades for the engineers behind the clockwork radio and the anticipated clockwork energy revolution are popping up like, well, clockwork. First, inventor Trevor Baylis was honoured with an appearance on TV's This is Your Life. Now, his partner John Knapton, professor of structural engineering at Newcastle University who has been helping to distribute the clockwork radios to those without electricity in Africa, has gone one better. Village leaders in Ekumfi Atakwa, in Ghana, have made him an honorary chief.
