PPARC. Ian Lang, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, has appointed the following to the Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council: Len Culhane, director of Mullard Space Science Laboratory and head of University College London's department of space and climate physics; and Brian Eyre, deputy chairman of Atomic Energy Authority (AEA) Technology plc and visiting professor at Liverpool and UCL universities. John Enderby, University of Bristol, has been re-appointed for a second two-year term.

KING ALFRED'S COLLEGE

Christopher Turner, director of human and information resources at Chelten-ham and Gloucester College, has been appointed vice principal (academic).

ST EDMUND'S HALL, OXFORD

Stephen Tumin, former chief inspector of prisons, has been appointed principal.

NOTTINGHAM TRENT UNIVERSITY

Graham Chapman, leader of Nottingham City Council and John Carter, vice chairman of the finance committee for Nottinghamshire County Council, have joined the board of governors.
