The British Library David Inglis, former managing director of Chapman and Hall, has been appointed director of the digital library development project.

University of Central Lancashire Ian Shaw, professor and head of the centre for toxicology, has been appointed to the Government's advisory committee on pesticides. He is already chairman of the working party on pesticide residues.

University of Bradford Roger Stewart Pawson, director of S. Jerome and Sons (Holdings) Ltd and chairman of audit committees and Sanderson Electronics plc, has been appointed a member of the university's council.

University of Aberdeen Marion Grady, formerly with Aberdeen City Council, has been appointed as occupational health adviser.

Society of Antiquaries of Scotland Michael Lynch, Sir William Fraser professor of Scottish history and palaeography at the University of Edinburgh, was elected president of the society on November 30 1996.
