When do you whistle? 1

九月 20, 2002

Graeme Catto, president of the General Medical Council, suggests whistleblowing should be an part of undergraduate education ("Medics learn to blow whistle", THES , August 16). However, the issue of how to inculcate whistleblowing as a means of self-regulation is unresolved.

Research has shown that medical students in the latter years of a course are less likely than their junior colleagues to consider whistleblowing.

Medical schools need to get rid of the stigma attached to whistleblowing and set up guidance on when, how and what to report.
