Letter: No offence 1

二月 22, 2002

You are wrong to imply ("No power to halt BNP recruiters on campus", THES , February 15) that the British National Party is recruiting students at the University of Greenwich. We have no evidence that this is happening. Nor is it true that universities have no powers to prevent such activity. Students have the right to hold any political belief but when they come on to campus they must behave in a way that does not disrupt the life of the university or cause offence.

This university is proud of its diverse university community, with 47.6 per cent black and other ethnic minority students on our largest campus. We have a strong commitment to race equality and robust policies to back that up. Should there be any breach of these policies, we have powers to act.

Rick Trainor
Vice-chancellor
University of Greenwich
