A bit of literal thinking

十月 29, 2004

What a stroke of genius on the part of your correspondents Quentin Deakin, Richard Mullender (Letters, October 15), as well as Claire Sambrook, writing in The Guardian (October 23) to play along with my irony.

By pretending that I really held such views on widening participation, they were able to develop further the whole argument against those who believe that access to university education should be restricted.

I won't hear another word about lawyers or educational spokesmen for political parties being literally minded.

From now on, I'm going to look at both professions in an entirely new light.
