Yale University is a private Ivy League research university which is the third-oldest higher education institution in the US.

Yale traces its history back to 1701, when it was founded as the Collegiate School in Saybrook, Connecticut, which moved to New Haven 15 years later.

In 1718 it was renamed Yale College, in honour of Welsh benefactor Elihu Yale, and it was the first university in the US to award a PhD, in 1861.

Yale’s central campus covers 260 acres of New Haven, and includes buildings dating back to the mid-18th century.

The university is made up of 14 schools, and students follow a liberal arts curriculum, covering humanities and arts, sciences and social sciences before choosing a departmental major. Students also receive instruction in writing skills, quantitative reasoning and foreign languages.

Unusually for the US, Yale students are housed in residential colleges on the model of the universities of Oxford and Cambridge. There are 12 historic colleges, and construction of two more started in 2014.

Around one in five students is international, and more than half of all undergraduates receive scholarships or grants from the university.

Yale has an endowment that exceeds $25 billion (£17.3 billion), making it the second-richest educational institution in the world, and a library that holds more than 15 million volumes, making it the third-largest in the US.

Yale alumni and sports teams are known as “Bulldogs”, and many Yale graduates have gone on to notable careers in politics, the arts and science.

Four Yale graduates signed the American Declaration of Independence, and the university has educated five US presidents: William Howard Taft, Gerald Ford, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. Twenty Yale alumni have won Nobel prizes, including economist Paul Krugman, while 32 have won the Pulitzer Prize.

Other notable alumni include US secretaries of state Hillary Clinton and John Kerry, and actress Meryl Streep.

Yale’s campus includes many famous buildings, such as the Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library, the Peabody Museum of Natural History and the Sterling Memorial Library.

New Haven is a city of about 130,000 people, located two and a half hours south of Boston, and an hour and a half north of New York. It has many shops, museums and restaurants, and is close to beaches, hiking trails and historic attractions.

About Us The Department of Nutritional Sciences explores the relationship between diet, health and disease from molecules to populations. Based at King’s Waterloo Campus, the Department of Nutritional Sciences combines over 60 basic and applied scientists, dietitians, nutritionists, doctors and public health experts. Our mission is to find new ways to improve health and to prevent and treat nutrition-related disease. We began in 1953 as the first university department of nutrition in Europe and have been at the forefront of research in nutrition science and dietetics ever since. We have developed new food applications to impact blood glucose control, collected big data through citizen science to understand individual responses to food, pioneered the low FODMAP diet as a treatment for IBS, and are developing new cereal processing techniques to unlock the natural iron and zinc in staple foods. Our Department is based in the School of Life Course & Population Sciences, one of six Schools that make up the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine at King’s College London. The School unites over 400 experts in women and children’s health, nutritional sciences, population health and the molecular genetics of human disease. Our research links the causes of common health problems to life’s landmark stages, treating life, disease and healthcare as a continuum. We are interdisciplinary by nature and this innovative approach works. In REF 2021, the Department and School were returned under Unit of Assessment 3 (Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy) where 70% of research was 4* (world-leading) and 95% of research was 4* and 3* (world-leading or internationally excellent), and importantly, 100% of the research environment was rated 4* (world-leading). This resulted in the highest ranking in the UK for UoA3 for research, research output, research GPA and research power. We use this expertise to teach the next generation of health professionals and research scientists. Based across King’s Denmark Hill, Guy’s, St Thomas’ and Waterloo campuses, our academic programme of teaching, research and clinical practice is embedded across five Departments. About the role We are looking to recruit two Research Assistants in Nutritional Sciences to join our team and run a state-of-the-art large clinical trial that investigates the impact of plant foods on gut and cardiometabolic health. The post holder will be involved in setting up, coordinating and conducting a large trial on a dietary intervention. The project will involve the preparation and provision of foods and meals to healthy participants, and the collection of clinical outcomes related to gut and cardiometabolic health. The post holder will assist in the day to day running of the project, including (but not necessarily limited to) preparation/sourcing of the dietary intervention products, coordination of meal deliveries, liaising with service providers, recruitment of study participants, delivery of the dietary intervention, maintaining study documentation, coordinating subject correspondence, conducting study visits, ensuring measurements of primary and secondary outcomes are conducted according to standard operating protocols, collecting and processing biological samples, acquiring relevant regulatory approvals, and assisting with data entry and analysis. The post-holder will be based within the department of Nutritional Sciences in the School of Life Course and Population Sciences (Waterloo campus) and will report to Dr Eirini Dimidi. It is a rare and incredibly exciting opportunity to work across the research spectrum at a centre of excellence for diet and health research. Based across King’s Denmark Hill, Guy’s, St Thomas’ and Waterloo campuses, our academic programme of teaching, research and clinical practice is embedded across five Departments About the role The EMBRACE Chief Operating Officer is the operational and partnership lead for the Inkfish EMBRACE (Enhanced Maternal and Baby Results with AI-supported Care and Empowerment) programme, setting up and managing the operations across the multi-partner, multiple country consortium. The post holder is required to be a highly experienced, strategic leader with expertise in artificial intelligence in the context of personalised health. EMBRACE is a visionary, multicomponent international research programme, the first of its kind in the world, supported by Inkfish with £35M core funds over six years, starting in April 2025. It is a global study of 60,000 participants, including 20,000 mothers, 20,000 infants and up to 20,000 partners. It brings together world-leading clinician scientists across six distinguished Healthcare organisations, world-leading AI & technology companies, together with premier biotech companies, with the overarching aim to fast-track major scientific breakthroughs, revolutionise maternal and early childhood health through precision-personalised interventions, powered by a groundbreaking symbiosis of cutting-edge AI combined with human support. The post holder is responsible for establishing and managing the EMBRACE programme working closely with the study Director and lead PI, Professor Josip Car (King’s College London), Senior Advisors, other members of the research leadership team and Industry partner organisations. The EMBRACE Chief Operating Officer will manage all parties within the global consortium and key stakeholders to set up and maintain an operational framework that meets the regulatory requirements of each partner country and organisation to meet EMBRACE’s ambitious goals. They will oversee day-to-day execution of decisions and contracts, including the oversight of the research teams and business operations. This includes the consortium’s financial management, project management – meeting key milestones, writing and presenting reports, establishing and overseeing the programme’s governance, ethical and regulatory compliance, and maintaining internal and external relationships including with industry partners, funders and collaborators. The EMBRACE Chief Operating Officer will provide strategic leadership, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and ensure delivery of high-impact research outcomes. About the role  This role presents a fantastic opportunity for an individual looking to develop a career in higher education or within a research-led environment. As a Senior Postgraduate Research Officer, you will provide essential administrative support to postgraduate researchers as they progress through their PhD studies, helping to ensure the effective management and delivery of research degree programmes. The position is wide-ranging, involving responsibility for various administrative processes across the student journey – from pre-enrolment and induction through registration, progression, and graduation. You will work with a range of university systems, including student record databases, virtual learning environments, and financial reporting tools, applying best practice to maintain data accuracy and resolve issues as they arise. Collaboration is a key aspect of the role, as you will work across both the School of Education, Communication and Society, as well as the Policy Institute. You will engage with both academic and professional services colleagues within the faculty as well as with central teams such as Admissions Research Student Records, and the King’s Doctoral College. This is a part-time post (21 hours per week) and you will be offered an indefinite contract. The role operates on a hybrid basis, with time split between remote working and on-site attendance at our Waterloo campus (ECS) and Melbourne House (the Policy Institute). Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with the capability to produce clear, accurate documentation and correspondence. Proven commitment to providing high-quality customer service, demonstrating clarity in communication and responsiveness to enquiries. Meticulous attention to detail, with a methodical approach and a strong focus on accuracy. Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, working flexibly and using initiative and sound judgement when faced with competing demands. Experience in coordinating training sessions, workshops, or events. Desirable criteria Good numerical skills, with the ability to interpret and analyse data. Previous experience working within a Higher Education environment, particularly supporting postgraduate researchers, academics, or research staff. Familiarity with Higher Education systems, such as student record systems (e.g., SITS) or virtual learning environments (e.g., KEATS).
