About us The Department of Informatics is looking to appoint a Reader in Computer Vision Education. We welcome applications from candidates who have an international profile in research in any of the following areas: image classification and object detection, semantic segmentation, video analysis and action recognition, scene understanding, medical image analysis, self-supervised and unsupervised learning for vision, vision-based robotics and autonomous systems, and generative models for image synthesis and enhancement. We would also be interested in applicants who are working in emerging areas in the field, including vision transformers, explainable AI for vision, and privacy-preserving computer vision. We consider computer science challenges from a broad perspective. Members of the department regularly publish in and sit on the program committees of top-tier and well-known venues in computer science and software engineering. Top-quality research establishes members of the Department as leaders in their fields. The Department has strong links with industry, who engage with us in collaborative research projects. The successful applicant for this post will be involved in delivering teaching in a core area of computer science. The successful candidate will be appointed to a research group and will have the opportunity to contribute to cross-cutting hubs (see: https://www.kcl.ac.uk/nms/depts/informatics/research/index.aspx). Research collaboration across research groups, with departmental hubs and with other Departments in the Faculty and across the College is strongly encouraged. This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered on an indefinite contract. About the role Make significant contributions to the teaching, examining and project supervision of students in the Department of Informatics. Establish and disseminate innovative teaching practices in the department. Deliver an excellent student experience through innovative teaching and assessment methods for both undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes, in core computer science and a specialism in computer science or artificial intelligence. Enthusiastically contribute to academic management and support the administration and development of the department to further its education, research activities, and ambitions. Undertake a self-directed programme of scholarship in cybersecurity education at a level commensurate with current international standard. Act as personal tutor to students as agreed with the Head of Department, assist with difficulties, e.g. learning support/problems and be responsible for the pastoral care of students. Contribute fully and conscientiously to administrative tasks in the department. Actively promote and participate in equality, diversity and collegiality. Undertake any other reasonable duties that may be requested by the Head of Department. About you To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience: Essential criteria 1PhD in computer science, quantum computing or related field. Outstanding teaching and examining experience of computer science topics at MSc and/or Undergraduate level (including experience designing a module, developing teaching material and designing assessments, as well as contribute to the pastoral care of students). Ability to develop and deliver high and innovative teaching, including flipped classroom and online methods. Significant experience in university governance and academic administration. The project: Miscanthus Energy for a Resilient and Inclusive Transition (MERIT) aim is to increase Miscanthus biomass production in Ukraine. Ukraine has over 2 million hectares of arable land left unused due to war-related contamination. MERIT aims to use Miscanthus to: Produce renewable biomass for decentralised heating, biogas, and energy generation and restore damaged and abandoned land through phytoremediation. You will work on the Biofuel Crop Miscanthus, leading studies to emulate specific soil toxicity states and identifying variety specific resistance to toxins, and compartmentalisation of toxins in plant structures. Key tasks will include: (i); establishing and monitoring trials on campus and establishing field sites with local partners (ii); quantifying contents of soil and plant toxicity (iii); measuring plant morphological and physiological responses (iv); collating comprehensive data sets from project partners and undertaking appropriate Genotype x Environment x Treatment analysis (v); writing academic publications. A small part of the project will investigate cold tolerance in specific varieties. You may also be able to assist across the broader projects within the group.A proven ability to undertake and lead plant biology field research activities is essential, and to publish in international peer-reviewed journals is desirable. You will also have an enthusiastic and co-operative attitude, well-suited to working as part of a team, supervising and advising more junior members of the team on occasion, and contributing to essential field / laboratory / project management tasks. There is the opportunity for you to apply your own research interests within this project to broaden the scope of the study beyond the project deliverables.
