In the School of Veterinary Medicine, you will have the opportunity to work with experts from world class NHS hospitals and veterinary institutes. We are seeking to recruit a Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor (Reader) in Predictive In Vitro Models to strengthen the University’s leadership in technology-driven biomedical research and advance our advance the 3Rs agenda. As a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor, you will be expected to develop and lead a significant externally funded programme of research in line with the Faculty of Health and Medical Science’s mission of sustainably improve the health and wellbeing of humans and animals, and their environments through new knowledge and its application to the design, development and delivery of responsible innovation and impact. About the role Within the School of Veterinary Medicine, you will join the Section of Molecular Cellular Medicine within the Discipline of Comparative Biomedical Sciences. In the role you will: Establish and lead a sustainable research group, developing complex, multi-organ in vitro models for predictive disease research Work collaboratively with other researchers in the School to design and develop applications of in vitro models in their research areas Generate high quality publications and demonstrable impact Secure significant external research income to support the work of your research group Foster cross-disciplinary collaborations, including in silico modelling e.g. digital twins Enhance industry engagement and translational research impact. Mentor postgraduate research students and postdoctoral fellows Make high quality, research-led contributions to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching within the School, including on the RCVS-accredited BVMSci veterinary degree course. About you Our Senior Lecturers and Associate Professors play an important role in advancing research and innovation and influencing the future of the veterinary profession. As such, you will have: Proven track record in technology-driven in vitro model development. Evidence of real-world application of models across multiple research fields. Ability to contribute to 3Rs objectives in cancer, pain, vascular and gut research. A proven track record of substantial external research grant income generation A proven commitment to delivery of inspiring, engaging learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level Experience in silico modelling collaborations to enhance predictive power and a strong track record of cross-sector partnerships (academia, industry, regulatory bodies) are desirable. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. The Role We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Research Fellow to join an exciting industry-funded applied research project within the Infocomm Technology cluster at SIT. This project addresses the critical challenge of enabling ultra-reliable low-latency communications (URLLC) with priority-aware offloading for public safety services. The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end investigation of novel edge-assisted computation offloading strategies that leverages edge intelligence. The role will bridge rigorous theoretical work with hands-on offloading algorithm design and development. The core responsibility is to build and validate these offloading strategies, complete with Python application programming interfaces (APIs), through rigorous simulations and proof-of-concept (PoC) trials. This position is ideal for a researcher with a passion for solving complex problems at the intersection of wireless communications, edge computing, and machine learning, and who is eager to translate theoretical insights into practical systems. Key Responsibilities Derive and analyse closed-form mathematical expressions for latency and offloading probabilities across edge-only, cloud-only, and edge-cloud computation offloading algorithms. Design and develop robust Python APIs for edge-only, cloud-only, and edge-cloud computation offloading algorithms. Set up network testbeds integrating hardware, software, and communication protocols to validate edge-only, cloud-only, and edge-cloud computation offloading algorithms. Conduct rigorous simulations and live PoC trials to ensure computation offloading algorithms meets URLLC targets for public safety services. Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI) to ensure all project deliverables are met. Job Requirements A Ph.D./Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Communications Engineering, Computer Science, or a highly related discipline. A strong theoretical foundation and research background in wireless communications and edge computing. Strong publication track record in top-tier conferences and journals in the areas of wireless communications, IoT, or edge computing. Demonstrated proficiency in software API and algorithm development of edge intelligence algorithms using Python. Knowledge of machine learning or reinforcement learning techniques is highly advantageous. Experience with theoretical wireless network modelling, particularly stochastic geometry or queuing theory, is highly advantageous.

The SIT Centre for Intelligent Robotics (CIR) is an applied research centre responsible for developing and maintaining core applied robotics and embodied AI capabilities for real-world deployment. CIR is seeking a Robotics Engineer to implement state-of-the-art learning-based robotic manipulation methods on physical platforms for industry-driven applications, with an emphasis on contact-rich manipulation, robustness, and safe operation. The successful candidate will work closely with physical robots to translate recent advances in learning-based robotics into reliable, deployable systems. Key Responsibilities Implement, adapt, and evaluate state-of-the-art learning-based methods (e.g. imitation learning) for contact-rich robotic manipulation. Integrate hardware and software components into a functional system for real-world deployment. Design and execute field trials (test protocols, data logging, troubleshooting, reliability improvements). Produce technical documentation, reports, and implementation guides to support knowledge transfer and maintainability. Support project procurement activities (e.g., technical specifications, vendor evaluation, quotations) for robotics hardware, sensors, and compute resources. Contribute to publications and technical notes to disseminate research outcomes. To communicate and liaise with any internal and external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met.
