Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster, also known as the University of Münster, is a public research university and one of the largest in Germany with more then 45,000 students. It is often considered to be among some of the best universities in the country.

Due to lack of funds, university’s establishment dates back to 1780, almost a century after Pope Urban VII and Emperor Ferdinand II granted their permission for its foundation. The institution was built with money accumulated from the dissolution of its predecessor Münster's Jesuit College. Since 1907, the institute bears the name of the last German emperor Frederick William Victor Albert of Prussia.

Located in the most densely populated administrative region in Germany, North Rhine-Westphalia, the University of Münster has developed an reputation for excellence in cross-disciplinary research in medicine, business studies, mathematics and chemistry. Organised in 15 departments, the institute awards degrees on all levels ranging from protestant theology, PR and journalism to psychology and sports science.

The German Research Foundation and the funding programme excellence strategy of the Federal Government and the 16 administrative regions of Germany actively support the institution with funds aimed at big-scale research projects conducted in partnerships with German and international universities.

Student life in Münster, often ranked as being among the most live-able towns worldwide, offers choices of cultural events for every taste spanning from music festivals, theatre performances and historical exhibitions.

The symbol of the university is the famous Schloss, a building that resembles a mansion house, similar to the one in which the university’s administrative centre resides.

Some famous alumni of the university include the footballer Jens Lehman, and Nobel Laureate Georg Bednorz.

Description The Center for Interacting Urban Networks, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a Junior Research Scientist to support the project LANDMark on research on land economics, in any of the following areas: Measurement of land prices, with a focus on imputation techniques Land value determinants: public infrastructures (transport, health, and education services) Macroeconomic stability and instability in the presence of land as a fixed, non-produced asset Taxation of land wealth as an alternative to the consumption tax and the capital tax The political economy of land and its taxation Land, fixed resources, and political conflict The successful applicant will contribute to the research centered on any of these themes. The qualified candidate will have an MSc or an MA in economics or another quantitative field with no more than five years from receipt of the degree, and an appetite for working on interdisciplinary teams. Schemes of Service: Research Division: Engineering Employment Type: Fixed Term Role Overview As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in its research pursuits. Our research staff have the opportunity to develop industry-relevant applied research capabilities while contributing to impactful projects that address real-world operational needs. We are seeking a Research Engineer to join an applied research project focused on the development of an embodied AI robotic system for urban infrastructure inspection and maintenance. The project involves the design, integration, and validation of robotic mechanisms, sensing systems, and automated workflows for outdoor infrastructure maintenance applications.The successful candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary research team and industry partners to investigate, prototype, test, and implement practical robotic solutions that can operate in real-world environments and support more efficient, safe, and scalable infrastructure maintenance. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and integrate customised mechanical mechanisms for robotic systems, including robotic end-effectors, grippers, tool-changing interfaces, material handling systems, and task-specific automation modules. Develop 3D CAD models, fabrication drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and technical documentation using SolidWorks. Perform mechanical design analysis and engineering calculations, including load estimation, actuator sizing, structural integrity, tolerance analysis, and vibration/shock mitigation. Ensure mechanical designs are compatible with robotic arms, mobile platforms, sensors, and mechatronic systems, considering payload, reachability, safety, manufacturability, and maintainability. Build, assemble, and commission mechanical prototypes and experimental robotic systems. Conduct laboratory and field testing, analyse results, troubleshoot issues, and implement design improvements through iterative development. Source and evaluate commercial components, and work with vendors, fabricators, and contractors to support fabrication and assembly. Support field deployments and technology demonstrations with industry partners. Prepare technical reports, design documentation, test reports, risk assessments, and project deliverables. To liaise and communicate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met. Any other ad-hoc duties assigned by Supervisor. Requirements Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or a related discipline. Strong hands-on experience in mechanical design, prototyping, fabrication, and system integration. Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modelling, assembly design, and engineering documentation. Good understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and engineering analysis. Experience working with robotic systems, sensors, actuators, or mechatronic systems is advantageous.
