Western Kentucky University is a coeducational public institution which has been in Bowling Green, the third largest city in the state, since 1911. 

Established as Western Kentucky State Normal School in 1906, it has been known as Western Kentucky University since 1966. Over the years, WKU has incorporated Southern Normal School, Ogden College and Bowling Green College of Commerce.

In total, the university teaches more than 200 subjects. Nursing, elementary education, management and biology are the most popular at undergraduate level, while recreation & sport administration, organizational leadership, speech-language pathology and educational leadership are chosen by the highest number of postgraduates.

Bowling Green is 110 miles south of Louisville, the state’s largest city and home of the Kentucky Derby, the most famous horse race in the country. It is 30 miles north of the Tennessee state line and 60 miles north of Nashville.

WKU also has three regional campuses across Kentucky, in Glasgow, Elizabethtown-Fort Knox and Owensboro, which make up more than 15% of the university’s population between them. Glasgow is 30 miles west of the main campus, Elizabeth is in between Bowling Green and Louisville, and Owensboro is 70 miles north west.

Matt Shultz, lead singer from London-based rock band Cage The Elephant, Michael Rosenbaum, the actor who played Lex Luthor in Superman TV series Smallville, and Claire Donahue, a gold medal-winning swimmer at the London 2012 Olympics, are some of WKU’s many alumni.

This appointment at AOI grade will report to the ICT Infrastructure Manager. The Senior Network Specialist will be a technical lead in the design, development, operation and support of campus network services ensuring the security and availability of the network and ICT infrastructure services. The position of Senior Network Specialist will work as part of the Infrastructure Team in IT Operations and will also work with staff from across the Directorate to help plan provision with the aim of ongoing improvements to our network service for a consistent user experience and overall cybersecurity posture. The Higher Education landscape is complex and presents a number of challenges for network services while safeguarding data and users. Job Purpose The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in SIT, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum. Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place. They act as coaches and mentors to students during practical learning activities such as laboratory sessions, Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Professional Officers could also lead or work with faculty on industry innovation projects to provide solutions to the industry. In addition to their role in applied learning and applied research, Professional Officers manage the centralised laboratory facilities and resources in SIT. Ensure safety in labs Job Requirements SNB-valid Full Practicing Certificate (Registered Nurse). A degree in Nursing from a recognised University. Possessing a Master’s degree, PhD degree and relevant certifications will be an added advantage. Have at least 10 years of clinical nursing experience in healthcare settings. Extensive experience and knowledge of nursing skills and industry practices to bring industry perspectives to SIT. Keen interest in innovation projects, with demonstrated ability in developing solutions to technical problems. Experience in research projects and publications will be an added advantage. Strong supervisory skills and enjoy working closely with students in an educational environment. Experience in simulation education will be an added advantage. Demonstrate proficiency to keep abreast of development in the field and pursue professional certification programs. Possessing industrial certifications in relevant areas will be an added advantage (e.g., simulation training) Possession of a good network of relationships with industry partners in hospitals, community, and ILTC sectors will be an added advantage.
