You will work on a project investigating the influence of flavor compounds on oral and extraoral chemosensory systems involved in physiological functions such as metabolic regulation, food intake, and the immune response. The aim is to elucidate the molecular mechanisms by which taste-active molecules modulate chemoreceptor signaling pathways in various tissues and to link these findings with physiological results. The project combines cutting-edge molecular biological, analytical chemical, and bioinformatic approaches. The aim is for the successful candidate to be admitted to the Doctoral School for Chemistry (DosChem) at the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Vienna: https://doschem.univie.ac.at/ The standard employment contract is for three years . Your future tasks: They actively participate in research, teaching and administration, which means: You are working on your dissertation and its completion. They are involved in research projects and scientific studies in the following areas: - Analysis of the function of cellular chemoreceptors using molecular biological techniques, including PCR, qPCR, CRISPR/Cas-mediated knockout models, RNA-Seq, fluorescence microscopy and ELISA. Establishment and application of animal and human cell culture systems, including organoid cultures, for the investigation of receptor-ligand interactions and downstream signaling pathways. Comprehensive characterization of flavor compounds using state-of-the-art analytical chemical methods (e.g., LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, HRMS, metabolomics approaches and sensory tests). Bioinformatic analysis and integration of multi-omics datasets (transcriptomics, metabolomics) including path and network analysis. Design and execution of mechanistic in-vitro studies and, where applicable, support of translational approaches in the context of human interventions. Job description The Sustainable Materials lectureship plays a vital role in advancing knowledge and practice in sustainable materials within the Department of Design. The lecturer is expected to possess a strong understanding of materials, and use of materials in design context or from CMF field (colour-material-finish), while also bringing fresh perspectives to sustainable material innovations. The field is dynamic and expansive, covering a wide range of materials used across diverse design sectors and design applications. These may include bio-based, eco-friendly, renewable, or recycled materials applied in areas such as textile and/or product design. The role also requires proficiency in material sustainability assessment methods and close monitoring of European Commission policy developments related to materials and their use in the design, production, and recycling of products. Engagement with diverse design audiences and interesting partners—especially in manufacturing and design-driven commercial contexts—is a key part of the role. The post-holder has a doctoral degree in Design, Materials Design, Materials Research or a related field, demonstrating deep and rigorous understanding of materials development. They will teach across the Department’s undergraduate and graduate programmes and majors. The Faculty of Social Sciences invites applications for the position of UNIVERSITY LECTURER IN SOCIETAL SECURITY for a permanent position starting August 1, 2026. We seek candidates with a multidisciplinary background in social sciences and expertise in research related to economic, political, environmental, climatic and societal crises, conflicts and risks. This includes also their prevention, mitigation, responses and consequences, as well as societal dimensions of technological change. Previous background on theories and conceptualisations of security, insecurity, conflict, crises, resilience, militarisation, social and political trust and other concepts related to societal security is considered as a merit. The position is linked to the international MA programme Societal Security, a two-year master’s programme focusing on the complex nature of security and conflict. The programme provides students with a multidimensional understanding of the foundations of societal security and the threats it faces. The position will be organisationally situated in one of the following units at the Faculty of Social Sciences: Centre for European Studies, Economic and Social History, Global Development Studies or Political History. Duties and Responsibilities The appointee will: Teach in accordance with degree requirements and general guidelines of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Most teaching will take place within the track Economic Structures, Technological Change, and Crises. This track will focus on what kinds of crises, harms and hazards threaten a society’s functioning, as well as their root causes, impacts, and consequences. By doing that, it will provide an understanding on how societal security is deeply connected to political, economic and technological changes in climatic/ecological/social contexts. Supervise and examine master’s theses and supervise doctoral dissertations. Conduct research on the topic areas of the aforementioned track.
