Founded in 1834, Wake Forest University was first established outside Raleigh, the capital of North Carolina, before re-establishing itself in the city of Winston-Salem, its current location.

It is a private, coeducational collegiate university with a liberal arts curriculum and enrols around 7,500 students through its undergraduate, graduate and professional schools.

Undergraduates make up the bulk of the enrolment with up to 5,000 hailing from almost every state in the US and around 47 different countries.

The graduate school of Arts and Sciences offers 30 post-graduate programmes and there are the schools of business, law, divinity and medicine.

The law school is private and accredited by the American Bar Association. The school of medicine is responsible for educating nearly 2,000 students and fellows. The business school houses both graduate and undergraduate courses, and the school of divinity has been accredited by the Association of Theological Schools.

Wake Forest also has a broad study abroad programme, which gives students the opportunity to travel all over the world via 400 study abroad options in more than 70 countries worldwide.

Outside of the lecture theatre, there are 194 clubs and organisations for students to join and participate in.

and is renowned for having a deep commitment to the arts and entertainment, with a wide range of art galleries, performance art spaces, music and dance venues on offer.

Its location in the middle of the state – known as the Piedmont Triad of North Carolina – means it also benefits from being just a short drive away from both the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. 

The university prides itself on friendliness, the stimulation of intellectual discussion, athletic competition and the satisfaction of service to others. Its motto ‘Pro Huminatate’ means ‘For Humanity.’

Wake Forest’s colours are gold and black and its mascot is the ‘Demon Deacon’.

Job Description SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATION  DEPARTMENT OF JOURNALISM Founded in 1968, the School of Communication offers 7 programmes at the undergraduate and postgraduate (MA, MPhil, PhD) levels to 1,700 students. As a leading school in the Asia-Pacific region, its faculty members work in a dynamic, interdisciplinary academic environment that entails collaboration across multiple fields of study. The School now invites applicants to fill the following positions: Professor of Practice / Associate Professor of Practice (25260692) Responsibilities: Teach core multimedia journalism classes at the undergraduate and postgraduate level in English and should be versatile and experienced enough to also teach other professional courses as needed, such as broadcast journalism, photojournalism, audio storytelling, investigative journalism and English news and feature writing; Stay abreast of contemporary digital trends in the industry to advise on equipment purchases and ensure student skills and curriculum meet industry needs; and Be expected to create and develop curriculum, design syllabuses, assist in organising events, workshops and extracurricular activities, mentor students, advise student news publications, maintain industry connections, initiate and work with other faculty members on journalism-related projects and contribute to the overall development of whole-person and journalism education at the University. Requirements: A master’s degree or PhD in journalism or a closely related communication field from an accredited college or university; Have extensive experience in professional journalism, especially in multimedia, broadcast and online journalism; Have the ability of designing and delivering online content will be a distinct advantage; Have teaching experience at the university level is preferrable; Native or near-native English or Chinese skills; and Have extensive experience with hands-on digital production equipment and journalism storytelling techniques is required, including the use of Generative AI tools, professional cameras, recorders, microphones, Adobe Creative Suite, SEO, social media journalism, mobile journalism and front-page management. The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of up to two years commencing September 2026 or on a mutually agreed date. Re-appointments thereafter will be subject to performance and mutual agreement. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. This project focuses on federated causal inference in heterogeneous data environments, addressing the challenge of enabling trustworthy causal analysis across distributed datasets while preserving privacy. The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end investigation of novel federated learning strategies for causal inference. The role will bridge rigorous theoretical work with hands-on algorithm design and development on real-world datasets. The core responsibility is to build and validate federated causal inference algorithms through simulations and live demonstrations. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI) to ensure all project deliverables are met. Derivation of novel performance metrics for federated causal inference algorithms. Analysis of causal inference models in federated settings using synthetic and real-world datasets. Design and development of novel federated causal inference algorithms and associated software APIs. Validation of algorithms via simulations and live demonstrations. Job Requirements A Master's degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or equivalent. Strong theoretical background in statistics and machine learning. Knowledge of the basics of federated learning and causal inference is highly encouraged. Proven track record in research and development of machine learning algorithms. Proficiency in algorithm development using Python and ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow. Key Competencies Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment. Able to build and maintain strong working relationships with people within and external to the university. Self-directed learner who believes in continuous learning and development. Proficient in technical writing and presentation. Possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
