Following the efforts of prominent Ukrainian intellectual Vasily Karazin, after whom the university is named, the V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University was founded in November 1804 as the Kharkiv University. It is one of the oldest higher educational institutions in eastern Europe and the second oldest in Ukraine after the University of Lviv.

Today the university has 125 departments in 20 schools, as well as an Institute of High Technologies which is comprised of the School of Physics and Technology, the School of Computer Science and the School of Energy Physics.

The V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University is comprised of the Main building, the Northern Building, the Central Scientific Building and the Students’ Campus. The university also runs three research institutes, a botanical garden, as well as the University History Museum, the Museum of Natural History and the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography.

It is the only university in Ukraine that has trained and employed three Nobel Prize winners. Elie Mechnikov was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1908 and during his time at V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, he completed his four-year degree in just two years. Lev Landau was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1962 and lectured at the university between 1932 and 1937. The final Nobel Prize winner who studied at the university was Simon Kuznets, who was awarded the 1971 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences.

In 2004, the university marked the 200th anniversary of its foundation with large-scale celebrations, even minting a commemorative coin!

B1 lit. b (postdoc) Reference no.: 5473 The position is part of the Solar System Evolution group led by Ass.-Prof. Kristina Kislyakova. The main research direction of this group consists of unraveling the evolutionary pathways of the Solar System bodies, in particular Earth, Venus, and Mars, and determining the place of the Solar System within the larger family of exoplanets. Your working place: The Department of Astrophysics with currently around 90 members is part of the Faculty of Earth Sciences, Geography and Astronomy at the University of Vienna. We are searching for a Senior Scientist to contribute to the development of numerical codes used by the Solar System Evolution group and other groups at the department. Our ideal candidate has a scientific background in stellar and planetary astrophysics and a strong background in computational astrophysics. The job consists of two equally important parts: 1) to contribute to the research in the area of atmospheric evolution and 2) to take the lead in developing and supporting computational tools for our studies, such as finding the best solvers that can be used in the codes used by the Solar System Evolution and other groups at the department. The position is initially limited to 3 years with possibility to become permanent by mutual agreement. The starting date is as early as May 1st, 2026, but no later than August 1st, 2026. Your future tasks: Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means: You build an excellent research profile in the field of planetary and stellar astrophysics, and Solar System research. You lead and participate in scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at international meetings. You take the lead in the application of new computational tools, such as solvers, to the existing codes used by the group such as the hydrodynamic atmospheric codes for planetary and stellar atmospheres and particles codes. You contribute software expertise to other computational astrophysical groups. You (co-)supervise Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral students in Astronomy. You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement. You take on administrative tasks in research and teaching as well as evaluation procedures. We are seeking a Research Fellow in Molecular Dynamics and Computational Chemistry to join the School of Electronics and Computer Science (ECS) at the University of Southampton. The successful candidate will contribute to an interdisciplinary research programme developing computational models to understand molecular interactions relevant to antimicrobial systems, biomolecular interfaces, and catalytic processes. The project will use molecular dynamics simulations to understand molecular mechanisms of metal-based antimicrobial systems and biomolecular interactions, supporting the design of next-generation antimicrobial materials. The role will involve performing molecular dynamics simulations and computational modelling to investigate interactions between biomolecules, materials, and catalytic systems. The postholder will develop and apply advanced simulation techniques, analyse molecular simulation data, and contribute to collaborative research combining computational modelling with experimental studies. You will also contribute to research publications, collaborative research projects, and the development of future research proposals within a multidisciplinary research environment spanning engineering, materials science, and microbiology. About you You will hold a PhD in Computational Chemistry, Chemical Physics, Materials Science, Biophysics, Computational Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related discipline (or equivalent professional experience). You will have experience in molecular dynamics simulations of biomolecular or materials systems, using simulation platforms such as GROMACS, NAMD, AMBER, LAMMPS, or similar tools. Experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous: Biomolecular modelling or enzyme catalysis Metal–biomolecule or catalytic system simulations Quantum mechanical methods (e.g., DFT or QM/MM) Enhanced sampling or free-energy calculations Programming or scripting for computational research (e.g., Python, MATLAB, Bash) You will be motivated to work in a multidisciplinary research environment, collaborating with experimental scientists and computational researchers to develop innovative computational approaches that support interdisciplinary research. About the Role We are looking for a full-time postdoctoral Research Fellow to work on a high-profile project funded under the BBSRC’s Prosperity Partnership programme, a collaboration between Cranfield University, LIPTON Teas and Infusions, Browns East Africa Plantations and the UK Tea and Infusion Association. The project seeks to improve the sustainability of tea production through elucidating the mechanisms that enhance soil function and soil health in plantations, and by advancing molecular breeding approaches in a long-standing tea breeding programme. The role will be to lead analysis of soil microbiome data, and to carry out plant genetic analysis (genomic selection and identification of quantitative trait loci and candidate genes), working alongside two other Research Fellows specialising in agronomy and remote sensing. The project team also includes eight academic staff, three PhD students, and expert industry Research & Development teams based in Kenya and The Netherlands. The role involves delivering some training in analysis methods to other members of the wider project team. About You You will be educated to doctoral level and have a track record in processing and interpreting Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and genomic data. Experience with shell scripting (Bash), and at least one high-level programming language (Python or R) is essential. A sound knowledge of soil microbiology and/or plant genomics, and an interest in sustainable agriculture, would be advantageous.
