Description The Center for Interdisciplinary Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (CIDSAI) at NYU Abu Dhabi seeks to recruit a highly motivated researcher to work on topics in the theoretical foundations of data science and AI. The selected candidate will be part of the Foundations Cluster of CIDSAI and will collaborate closely with Professor Saurabh Ray, Professor Keith Ross, and Professor Pierre Youssef. We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong mathematical background and expertise in one or more of the following areas: High-dimensional probability and concentration/functional inequalities Markov processes and stochastic analysis Theoretical analysis of neural networks and deep learning Foundations of reinforcement learning and bandit algorithms Mathematical and algorithmic perspectives on large language models Statistical learning theory and complexity analysis Automated theorem proving and formal methods Random matrix theory and its applications in modern AI systems This position can be filled at either the Postdoctoral Associate level, depending on qualifications. The appointment is for two years, with the possibility of renewal. Apply by: 28/01/2026 Role Description About the Role This role supports and delivers research in plant and soil sciences in laboratory, glasshouse and field-based environments with an emphasis on “postharvest” research concerning biology and technologies for extending the shelf-life and quality of fresh fruit and vegetables. It also supports student learning and development (both MSc and PhD) by delivering training and guidance for projects in your own area of expertise. SABS has internationally-recognised expertise across both domestic and international food supply chains, from soil science to postharvest quality. About You You will be educated to Level 4 (HND) as a minimum in a relevant subject and have significant experience in a relevant technical role: setting up experimental trials, using/ maintaining laboratory and field-based experimental equipment. With good written and verbal communication skills, you will have the ability to interpret complicated instructions, analyse requirements and implement detailed specifications. You will also have a working knowledge of health and safety procedures and the ability to learn new skills. Ideally, you will have experience of HPLC and/or postharvest biology. As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. About the project: Difficulties in swallowing or chewing affect millions worldwide, especially amongst the elderly. We have recently been awarded a research project to develop transitional foods which can make a positive impact on the quality of life for those with swallowing difficulties. The project includes two new research positions that will work closely together with each other and with the multidisciplinary team of project investigators. We invite outstanding and talented candidates who are passionate about foods and have a strong desire to develop or enhance their R&D competencies to apply for these positions. The primary role of this position is in the area of sensory characterization, food product formulation and production, oral processing characterization and conduct of surveys. The position requires a strong background in food chemistry, food product development, colloidal science, sensory science as well as survey research. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Undertake these key responsibilities in the project: i. Design, conduct and analyse survey amongst Speech and Language Therapists in Singapore ii. Develop food products with transitional behaviour iii. Conduct sensory tests of food products, including in-mouth characteristics Document, publish and present research findings Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. Job Requirements A Degree in food Science or related area Passion for developing and analysing the behaviour of foods Evidence of strong knowledge and interest in food chemistry, applications of hydrocolloids and proteins, emulsions and sensory evaluation Evidence of ability to lead, manage and perform research independently as well as in a group Key Competencies: Strong experimentation skills and theoretical knowledge in food science and technology. Able to work independently as well as to maintain strong working relationships with people within and external to the university.
