The National University of Northwestern Buenos Aires (UNNOBA) was founded in 2002. Its history can be traced back to 1990 with the establishment of the Junín Regional University Centre. A year later in 1991 the Pergamino Regional University Centre opened and in 2002 these two institutions merged together to form UNNOBA. The university’s main campus is located in Junín, a city in northern Buenos Aires, Argentina. There is a second campus in Pergamino city, which is home to the university’s Biotechnology Centre and the School of Agricultural, Environmental and Natural Sciences. The university plays a leading role in the region of Junín as it hosts the Buenos Aires Research and Transfer Centre. UNNOBA is also home to a number of other centres, institutes, and laboratories that are used to produce innovative research. Throughout the year the university engages in research projects to contribute to the development of society. Academically the university is divided into three schools: The School of Agricultural, Environmental and Natural Sciences, The School of Economic and Legal Sciences, and The School of Technology. Within each school are a number of departments offering specialised courses for both undergraduate and graduate students. There is also the Institute of Human Development, which offers degrees in bioimaging production, nursing, and physical education. Since 2007 UNNOBA has developed partnerships with international universities to give its students the opportunity to study abroad. Students can choose to participate in the academic exchange programme in countries such as Brazil, Chile, Germany, and Switzerland. The university collaborates with its partner higher education institutions around the world to exchange knowledge and research.

Job Purpose: The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in SIT, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum. Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place. They act as coaches and mentors to students during practical learning activities such as laboratory sessions, Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Professional Officers could also lead or work with faculty on industry innovation projects to provide solutions to the industry. In addition to their role in applied learning and applied research, Professional Officers manage the centralised laboratory facilities and resources in SIT. With Technical Officers, laboratory safety professionals, and administrators in POD, they jointly develop central policies and processes for the safe and seamless operation of laboratories in SIT. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and deliver Food Technology and related laboratory sessions, practice modules, and applied learning activities. Mentor and guide students in Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Lead and execute innovation and applied research projects in collaboration with industry partners. Manage, maintain, and optimize laboratory facilities and equipment to support teaching, research, and industry projects. Undertake leadership or coordinator roles, as assigned by the Team Lead, in support of the university’s strategic goals. Uphold and enforce safety standards and practices in all laboratory operations. Job Requirements A good degree in Food Science and Technology or related disciplines such as Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or Chemical Engineering. Master’s degree / PhD would be advantageous. At least 10 years of relevant industry experience with proven expertise in food product development and innovation, covering areas such as R&D, process scale-up, and regulatory compliance. Involvement in market introduction and commercialization of food products will be a strong advantage. Proven track record in working with industry partners, academia, or research institutes to drive food innovation. Experience contributing to or supporting industry or research funding projects and translating outcomes into practical applications is desired. Strong grounding in at least two or more food science domains such as food chemistry, food microbiology, food processing, sensory science, or food engineering. Willingness and ability to expand into adjacent domains as part of role development. Ability to design and deliver teaching and training materials for undergraduate and/or postgraduate modules, with emphasis on practical application. Experience in hands-on lab work, pilot plant operations, or technical training is desirable. While a formal teaching background is not mandatory, the candidate is expected to develop and acquire relevant teaching competencies as part of the role requirements. Proficient in analytical techniques for food characterization, e.g., chromatography, spectroscopy, rheology, texture analysis, or sensory profiling. Certification in food safety or quality management is advantageous.

Research Fellow in Connecting Generations

We are delighted to welcome applications for a Research Fellow post within the ESRC Connecting Generations programme to examine intergenerational flows of support in later life and the increased cost-of-living in the UK.  ESRC Connecting Generations is a collaborative project between the long-established Centre for Population Change (University of Southampton, University of St Andrews, and University of Stirling), the University of Oxford Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Science, and the Resolution Foundation. ESRC Connecting Generations aims to innovate in knowledge and understanding of intergenerational relations and population change. The Centre is led by Professor Jane Falkingham. For further details, see https://www.cpc.ac.uk/research_programme/connecting_generations/  This project will examine intergenerational flows of support in later life and the increased cost-of-living in the UK, via data collected from two project Directives from the Mass Observation Study, University of Sussex. Qualitative narratives were collected in Spring 2023 and also August 2024 in order to investigate the role of intergenerational support in mitigating the rising costs of living and whether growing costs have adversely affected intergenerational flows of support. This research position is in the Department of Gerontology within the Faculty of Social Sciences, where Professors Evandrou and Vlachantoni are based. You will be part of a collaborative team including other project Researchers, the CPC Research Manager and Knowledge Exchange team, as well as Faculty members from both the Department of Gerontology at the University of Southampton and other Departments and partner institutions.  To be successful in the role you will have, or will be close to completing, a PhD (or equivalent professional qualifications) with a background in Gerontology or Social Policy and strong qualitative research methods skills in a relevant discipline. You will have knowledge and expertise in data analysis and be skilled in the use of e.g. NVivo or other software. You will have proven ability to plan and organise your work independently and as part of a team and have the ability to write research presentations and papers for peer review publication.  The Research Fellow post is full-time fixed term for 12 months and is available from the 1st March 2026. Due to external project funding, the latest start date is 1st April 2026 with a fixed term end date of 31st March 2027.
