About AgroBioSciences (AgBS): The AgroBioSciences (AgBS) program is a component of the Science & Technology pole of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P). It constitutes a structure of higher education and practical-based research with a vision of solving real African agriculture challenges by leveraging up-to-date science and technology. The AgroBiosciences Program Research Center leverages up-to-date technologies to address African agriculture challenges. It is a multidisciplinary research center that aims to conduct relevant, cutting-edge research that positively impacts African agriculture. It is based on the collaboration and synergy of several research programs targeting diverse disciplines of research in agriculture, such as  Microbiome, Omics, Plant Physiology and Crop Improvement, Plant Pathology, By-products Valorization, Soil Sciences, Agronomy, and Sustainable Farming… AGBS is seeking a highly motivated and skilled postdoctoral researcher to join our interdisciplinary team studying the biology of microalgae and soil cyanobacteria. This position will focus on understanding the ecological roles and potential applications of these microorganisms in agricultural systems, specifically for improving soil health, nutrient cycling, and sustainability. The successful candidate will conduct cutting-edge research on how microalgae and cyanobacteria can enhance soil fertility, optimize nutrient availability, and contribute to more sustainable agricultural practices. Job Responsibilities Study the biology, ecology, and physiology of microalgae and cyanobacteria, particularly their role in soil nutrient cycling, nitrogen fixation, and carbon sequestration. Investigate the mechanisms through which these microorganisms interact with soil environments and plants, particularly in relation to enhancing soil fertility, water retention, and microbial diversity. Develop and optimize biofertilizers or biostimulants based on cyanobacteria and microalgae to improve soil health and agricultural productivity. Study the effects of these microorganisms on crop growth, soil nutrient availability, and plant-microbe interactions. Design and execute laboratory, greenhouse, and field experiments to assess the efficacy of microalgae and cyanobacteria in improving soil quality and plant performance. Analyze experimental data using appropriate statistical methods and communicate findings through scientific publications. Work closely with researchers from other disciplines, such as microbiology, soil science, and agriculture, to integrate findings into broader agricultural and environmental research efforts. Present research findings at conferences and collaborate with industry partners or stakeholders on practical applications of research. Mentor graduate students, interns, or research assistants involved in related projects. Qualifications: Ph.D. in Microbiology, Environmental Biology, Soil Science, or a related field. Strong background in microbial ecology, particularly with experience in cyanobacteria or microalgae biology. Experience with experimental design and data analysis in both laboratory and field settings. Familiarity with agricultural microbiology, plant-microbe interactions, or biofertilizer development is highly desirable. Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a strong record of scientific publications. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team. The Role and the Department The Strategy, Planning and Insight Office aims to be an indispensable partner in driving forward Durham University's positioning and performance, supporting decisions on our strategy, academic business model, critical initiatives, plans and investments. The purpose of the Senior Officer role is to deliver analytical and planning work across multiple areas of the team's functions. You will be instrumental in delivering key analysis and insights, providing evidence and advice to support strategic opportunities for academic Faculties and Departments You will contribute to the team's work in Business Intelligence, data analysis and reporting; you may already have strong skills in this area, or we can offer significant training including the possibility of an advanced apprenticeship for those who want to develop their analytical or technical skills. We currently use Power BI and Alteryx; you will use these tools and support our customers to engage with the outputs we produce. The team interacts with a wide range of other staff in the University, including members of the University Executive Committee (UEC), Research & Innovation Services, Recruitment & Admissions and Marketing & Communications, to support the development and delivery of strategy.
